Loresco type SWS is designed for use in impressed current surface systems and special application deep anode systems. SWS may be poured dry or through water or light mud.
Loresco SWS exhibits a hard, round shape and does not require tamping because of its ability to go full density with simple pouring. The bulk density of SWS is 68 lbs. per cubic foot. The predominant particle sizing ranges from 1 mm to 5 mm with no particles larger than 12 mm.
The manufacture of SWS is in a highly controlled "hot" atmosphere which produces a particle surface with wettable characteristics. This allows SWS to be freely poured directly into water or light mud without sacrificing system integrity due to poorly compacted carbon.
Loresco SWS is a product designed to be placed in the earth. According to EPA-approved leacherate tests, SWS meets all purity requirements for materials utilized in underground burial.
Deep Anode Applications:
For deep anode systems where top-loading of the hole is desired or necessary, Loresco type SWS is recommended. Due to the large grain size together with the high specific gravity, SWS will readily sink through water and light mud. Settling and final compaction time is rapid.
For deep anode systems to be installed in porous and fissured rock-like formations, where filling the bore hole with small-grained backfills is not practical, Loresco type SWS is suggested. Due to the relative sizing for SWS, small pores, fissures, and/or cracks will be plugged. This allows stable placement of the carbon backfill within the intended bore hole.
Deep Anode Installation:
Loresco SWS may be used to top-load deep anode systems where necessary. To improve the compact settling of the SWS, the water within the bore hole should be as clean as practical. For stable, consolidated formations, it is possible to circulate clean water within the completed hole prior to loading. The volume of SWS required for a specific fill level should be calculated and checked against the actual settled level of SWS to minimize the possiblity of unknown voids and bridging.
If the bore hole is dry, SWS may be poured freely. If the SWS is to be poured through clean water, the rate should not exceed one hundred pounds per minute. The rate should be decreased if light muds are present.
